the jamileh weber gallery is delighted to present this exhibition with paintings and sculptures from the estate of max bill. after 1995, this is the second collaboration with angela thomas schmid, second wife and widow of the artist.

max bills oeuvre is founded on the idea, that beauty is the result of an intellectual order, based on scientific knowledge. max bill does not see a principle - maybe a gradual - difference between formal problems of the everyday and formal problems in the fine arts.

with his universal formal demand max bill created a comprehensive and multilayered oeuvre, covering several related fields in the arts like architecture, painting, sculpture, design, graphics and typography.

the selection on display shows some not so well known facet of his visual arts and covers more than sixty years. the show starts with early works from the late twenties, strongly influenced by his teacher at the bauhaus, paul klee. one of the first sculptures from 1934, with a surrealistic touch, an exciting series of works from the forties, quad-couples, compressions and distributions lead to a rich selection of the well-know "transcolorations".

besides the painted oeuvre, the exhibition presents seven metal and stone sculptures, culminating in a monumental posthumous chromium-nickel steel sculpture "" fläche im raum von einer linie begrenzt", completed in 1995 after max bills dead under supervision of his son jakob bill.

the show will remain on view january 12 through february 22, 2006 at the jamileh weber gallery, waldmannstrasse 6, ch-8001 zurich. hours: tuesday through friday, 11am to 6pm, saturday 10am to 4pm and by appointment.
